In a lively and entertaining demonstration against the backdrop of Edinburgh Castle during the YES Campaign march on Saturday Trident Ploughshares activists demonstrated their support for Scottish independence and the disarmament of Trident. Wearing tabards that read TRIDENT NO on the front and SCOTLAND YES on their backs about a dozen activists sang their hearts out to the tune of Bin the Bomb as thousands of pro-independence marchers passed on the Bridges.
With the end of each chorus the singers continued to turn to reveal the flip side of their message as marchers applauded in approbation for nearly an hour and a half. They were gratified when, at the rally speaker after speaker iterated the message that an independent Scotland will be free of nuclear weapons. The group was bookended by pink and yellow banners that reinforced their message. And a banner announcing the message TRIDENT NO SCOTLAND YES was dropped from a second floor window on the Royal Mile where thousands gathered at the outset of the march.
