Nuclear weapons factory – AWE Burghfield blockade update, 13th June

IMAG1743

Angie – working breakfast , early morning on 13th June at Construction Gate, AWE Burghfield

It was business as usual for protesters – keeping the entrance to a nuclear weapons manufacturing site blockaded – at Construction Gate, AWE Burghfield until around 4.00pm yesterday afternoon when Ministry of Defence police stormed the blockade and seized all lock-on equipment. No-one was arrested, but the protesters are left without lock-on kit.

Not deterred and as determined as ever to sit tight until ‘back up’ arrives in the form of masses of people who are so rightly outraged at the government planning to spend over £2oo,ooo,ooo,ooo on illegal, useless, new nuclear weapons, when public services and people across the UK are suffering the effects of austerity cuts – which are being made to pay for said illegal, useless (unusable) nuclear weapons.

In the meantime help has arrived – anyone who’s seen the blockade pics over the last week or so may have noticed ‘the toys’….they are now sitting tight guarding the entrance to the site and refusing to move. So far, they have  not been seized or arrested my the Ministry of Defence police. They have formed up in front of the entrance and also intend to remain until help arrives.
