DISARMING CONNECTIONS

trident no outside castleOn the 18th January the disarmament campaign Trident Ploughshares will share their vision for a Trident-free Scotland with Saturday evening crowds in Glasgow, and in particular those gathering for the Capercaillie Concert in the Concert Hall, part of the Celtic Connections festival.

Campaigners will present a simple “SCOTLAND YES, TRIDENT NO” message, formed by members each holding a single large letter of the legend. This week the festival’s director and Capercaillie founder Donald Shaw said that discussion of the referendum was being encouraged by the organisation.

Mary Millington from Glasgow said:

We planned this a good while ago and we were always sure that our message fits in well with a celebration of Celtic music and tradition. Donald Shaw’s statement is a further encouragement.

Trident Ploughshares sees the vote in September as the very best chance there is for ridding Scotland of weapons of mass destruction. Such a move would also most likely mean that the UK as a whole would have to abandon nuclear weapons and this would be a huge spur to worldwide disarmament.

At the same time we need to keep up our demands that Trident goes as soon as possible following a Yes vote in the referendum.
