The June 2016 month of protest at the UK’s nuclear weapons factory, AWE Burghfield took an unplanned turn on Monday 6th evening when people who’d been protesting and blockading during the day decided to stay overnight to keep Construction get closed. Then they decided to stay a second night, and a third and fourth. During the day the blockaders have been joined by groups of people who had already planned to go to AWE Burghfield for the day, as part of scheduled events for the month. But overnight the same group of people have stayed put and maintained the blockade. Now they need to leave.
Given the effectiveness of the overnight blockading – no construction traffic has entered AWE Burghfield this week – it would be brilliant if other people could get down to the site to keep the blockade going.

Groups from around the UK will be arriving at the site on various days to carry out their own protests – having a blockade already in place at Constuction Gate would be such a bonus for the protests.
Anyone who can do this will need to be independent and bring sleeping bags, tents, food etc. although if that is difficult, support and or equipment can probably be provided by arrangement.
Trident Ploughshares will continue to publicise any blockading or non-violent protest activity at Burghfield if required and keep looking for others to support an ongoing blockade.

Please pass this message to anyone who might be interested, either existing anti-nuclear weapons campaigners, or other groups like anti-austerity groups who are struggling to ensure a decent level of public services in the UK whilst the government is slashing funding to vital services in order to squander 200 Billion plus on an obsolete, useless, illegal relic which could never be used.
